While the cablecars of San Francisco are legend, the men who drive them are often under appreciated. Cablecars are after all just attached to cables that are running under the city all the time; and the Gripmen manipulate levers to connect and disconnect them. This would all be simple if San Francisco was flat! No such luck. It takes great upperbody strength to put on the brakes and not let the car freewheel down Hyde. Never let the rider know that!
